Printing with food

The recent TV series ‘Chef’s Table’ is full of inspirational chefs who have introduced strong visual art dialogue into their dishes and whole eating experience. Ranging from Dominique Crenn using the line of a poem to name each course to Grant Ashatz creating impressionistic works of art on the table itself. These meals involve an immersion in such sensual storytelling.

The design of these meals is key to telling the story behind the food. I have shared many a meal with some incredibly precious people and formed firm friendships over food. Many individuals have entrusted me with their prized recipes and have told the stories behind them. Each meal is significant in its own right.

Using these first hand experiences, stories and experiences I wonder at the possibility of creating a  growing collection of prints embodying and celebrating each memorable meal. A visual representation of these dialogues between different cultural forms of hospitality. An sketch book inspiration for the next created meal.

I also wonder how far this meal design in print embodiment could be taken with the potential of 3D food printing on the rise? Could these designed prints actually be printed in food and eaten as works of art?
